Report Quality Analysis
- Report covered data from 2008-09.
- This well-written report provides a useful overview of Tanzania's mining and gas sectors, a clear summary of reported data, and detailed descriptions of relevant revenue streams, including the government agency or local government that received them.
- It also includes helpful descriptions of national legislation and policies governing the extractive industries. Detailed tables include pre- and post-reconciliation figures and notes on why specific adjustments were made.
- Although it does not contain critical price or production data, or a project-by-project breakdown of payment streams, the report does list the owners and operating companies of each mine and provides estimates of the total reserves belonging to specific mining operations and natural gas fields.
- Revenue data is disaggregated by company and revenue stream. Future reports could easily disaggregate by commodity as well, since each company included produces just one commodity. Disaggregation by project would make future reports even more useful to civil society and the public.
